FCDO Travel Advice
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office publishes current advice for British people travelling abroad. It covers entry requirements, safety and security, health risks, local laws, natural events and how to get help. Read the complete advice for every country on your route rather than relying on a headline or an older screenshot.
When to check the Foreign Office
Before you book, so that known restrictions or risks can be considered before any money becomes non-refundable.
When you arrange insurance, because cover should match the destination, itinerary and activities.
Before paying the final balance and again shortly before departure.
During the trip if there is a developing security, weather, health or transport situation.
Travel warnings and changes
FCDO advice can change quickly and may affect whether a supplier can operate the holiday, whether package-holiday rights apply and whether an insurer will provide cover. If the advice changes after you book, contact me before cancelling or paying for alternative arrangements. The options and charges will depend on the wording of the advice, the services that can still be provided, the applicable booking terms and your insurance policy.
You can subscribe to email updates from each country page. Everyone in the party should also understand the advice that is relevant to their health, safety and conduct while away.
Important Notice
Choosing to travel against Foreign Office advice is your responsibility. FCDO advice helps you make an informed decision, but it does not remove your responsibility to research the trip and meet the current requirements. Check your insurance carefully before travelling against official advice, as normal cover may not apply.
